Description
Petiveria alliacea L. is a plant species in the family Petiveriaceae, commonly known as Congoroot. It is native to several regions in Colombia, including Atlántico, Bolívar, Amazonas, Antioquia, and others, as well as parts of Brazil. It is found in diverse habitats, including the Cordillera Occidental, the Cauca Valley, and various subregions such as the Zona central and Sur. The species is present in several protected natural areas, including Parque Nacional Natural Macuira and Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona. The scientific name was published in 1753 by Linnaeus. The type specimen was later determined to be a post-1753 addition to the collection, and the choice of Barrie in 1993 is accepted as the correct type.
