Symphyotrichum novi-belgii, commonly known as Confused Michaelmas Daisy or New York aster, is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It is the type species for the genus Symphyotrichum, which was previously part of the genus Aster. The plant is native to regions including Belgium, Italy, Norway, Mexico, and parts of the United States such as Vermont. It was formally described in 1995 by G.L. Nesom.

Description

Symphyotrichum novi-belgii is a member of the Asteraceae family and is known for its blooming period around September 29, St. Michael’s Day, which has led to its common association with the name Michaelmas daisy. It is found in several regions across Europe and North America, including the Brussels-Capital Region, Walloon Region, Flemish Region, and other parts of Belgium, as well as in countries like Italy, Norway, Mexico, and the Czech Republic. The species is part of a broader group of plants that were historically classified under the genus Aster before being reclassified into Symphyotrichum.
