Gaylussacia nana, known as Confederate huckleberry, is a species in the Ericaceae family native to the southeastern United States. It grows in woodlands, bogs, sandy ridges, and savannahs, typically at elevations under 100 m, and is found in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Description

Gaylussacia nana (A.Gray) Small is a member of the Ericaceae family and is commonly referred to as Confederate huckleberry. It is native to the coastal plains of the southeastern U.S. and is reported from several states including Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. This species is adaptable to both wet and dry soils and can be found in various habitats such as woodlands, bogs, sandy ridges, and savannahs. It typically occurs at elevations below 100 m.
