Phleum pratense L., commonly known as Common Timothy, is a perennial grass species native to Europe, northern and western Asia, and various oceanic islands. It belongs to the Poaceae family and is part of the genus Phleum, which includes 17 species of grasses. The species was first described in 1753.
Description
Phleum pratense is distributed across regions such as BR, Faial Island, São Jorge Island, São Miguel Island, DK, FI, SE, RU, CL, FO, French Southern and Antarctic Lands, MX, BT, UZ, Flanders, Crozet Islands, Kerguelen, and the Azores. It is also referred to as meadow cat's-tail or common cat's-tail. The typification of the species has been subject to discussion, with some proposed type specimens not being formally accepted due to lack of original material or post-1753 additions. The species is widely recognized as a member of the grass family Poaceae.
