Jacobaea vulgaris, commonly known as common ragwort, is a species in the Asteraceae family. It is native to northern Eurasia and is often found in dry, open habitats. It has also been widely introduced and naturalized in regions such as North America, including Newfoundland, British Columbia, and the conterminous 48 United States, as well as in parts of Europe and Japan. The species was first published in 1791 by Gaertn.

Description

Jacobaea vulgaris is a wildflower that has spread beyond its native range and is now commonly found as a weed in various regions. It is part of the Asteraceae family and has been reported in numerous locations, including parts of Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan. The species was originally described under the genus Senecio but is now classified under Jacobaea. A lectotype was designated for the species based on the Hortus Cliffortianus polynomial, though descriptions cannot serve as types under the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants.
