Guaiacum officinale L. is a species in the Zygophyllaceae family, native to the Caribbean and northern South America. It is commonly known as Common Lignum Vitae and is distributed in regions such as La Guajira, Magdalena, Sucre, and Valle del Cauca in Colombia, as well as in Florida, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and other areas. The name was first published in 1753.

Description

Guaiacum officinale L. is a tree species in the Zygophyllaceae family, found in the Caribbean and along the northern coast of South America. It is known by the common name Common Lignum Vitae. The species is documented in regions including La Guajira, Magdalena, Sucre, and Valle del Cauca in Colombia, as well as in Florida, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and other parts of the Caribbean and North America. The original spelling 'Guaiacum' is recognized as the conserved name. The species was first described in 1753.
