It is distributed across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The species was first described in 1830. It is also known by other common names such as wayside gromwell, puccoon, western stoneseed, and lemonweed.
