Attalea maripa, known as Cokerite Palm, is a species in the Arecaceae family native to tropical South America. It is found in regions of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, and Peru. This palm can reach up to 35 m in height with fronds up to 12 m long, bearing numerous leaflets. Its yellow, edible fruit is oblong ovoid and cream, with oil extractable from both the pulp and seed kernel.
Description
Attalea maripa (Aubl.) Mart. is a tall palm species in the Arecaceae family, occurring in the Amazon and Orinoco basins across several South American countries. It is characterized by its height, reaching up to 35 m, and large fronds that can extend up to 12 m in length. The palm produces yellow, edible fruits with a cream interior. These fruits are oblong ovoid in shape and yield oil from both the pulp and the seed kernel. The species is widely distributed in Brazil's northern and western regions, as well as in the Amazonian territories of Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, and Peru. It was first described in 1844 and is a significant component of the region's flora.
