Description
Codon royenii, described by Linnaeus in 1767, is a member of the Codon genus and the Codonaceae family. The species is native to the Cape Provinces of South Africa and Namibia. Linnaeus based his description on a drawing and letter from David van Royen, dated 19 February 1767, with the material preserved in his herbarium (sheet 535.1). Retief and others have suggested the original specimen was likely collected by J. A. Auge during an expedition to Namaqualand and southern Namibia between 1761 and 1762.
