Description
Pisonia aculeata is a plant species within the Nyctaginaceae family, with a distribution spanning multiple countries and regions, including Colombia, the Caribbean, and parts of South America. The species was originally published in 1753. The typification of the name has been the subject of botanical discussion, with Stemmerik (1964) identifying a Plumier illustration as the basis for the species. Smith (1981) later accepted this as the lectotype, a decision that has been widely recognized. Diaz (1988) reviewed the original material but proposed a different Plumier illustration as the type, which was already predated by Smith's selection.
