Description
Celosia argentea is a member of the genus Celosia and is commonly referred to as plumed cockscomb or silver cock's comb. It is a tropical plant that has spread to many parts of the world and is considered a weed in regions such as India and China. Taxonomic discussions highlight the need for clarification regarding the holotype and lectotype for the species. The original material for the name is not present on the sheet cited by Townsend, and the multiple sheets in the Clifford herbarium do not constitute a single gathering, making them unsuitable for designation as a lectotype.
