Microseris bigelovii is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family, native to the west coast of North America from southern Vancouver Island to northern California. It is an annual plant with a taproot, producing yellow or orange flowers and distinctive cypselae with silvery to blackish scales.

Description

Microseris bigelovii is an annual species in the Asteraceae family, characterized by a taproot and a height ranging from 3 to 10 cm. It has basal leaves with linear to spatulate blades, and stems that are 0 in number. The peduncles are erect or ascending, and the involucres are ovoid to fusiform. The phyllaries are glabrous, with outer deltate and inner lanceolate shapes. The florets have yellow or orange corollas that equal or slightly surpass the phyllaries. The cypselae are truncate-fusiform, with pappi consisting of 5 deltate to lanceolate scales. The species was described in 1866 and has a chromosome count of 2n = 18.
