Lilium maritimum, commonly known as coast lily, is a lily species native to California. It is restricted to the coastline north of San Francisco, from Marin County to Del Norte County, with the highest concentration in Mendocino County. Previously found south of San Francisco, these populations have been extirpated. The species inhabits coastal prairies, coniferous forests, and bogs, often among Drosera species.

Description

Lilium maritimum, described by Kellogg in 1876, is a member of the Liliaceae family. This species is endemic to California and is now confined to the North Coast region. It thrives in diverse habitats including coastal prairies, coniferous forests, and bogs. Historically, it was present south of San Francisco, but all those populations have been lost. Current populations are most abundant in Mendocino County. The plant is known by the common name 'coast lily' in English and is adapted to the specific ecological conditions of the California coast.
