Nothofagus fusca (Hook.f.) Oerst., known as clinker beech, is a species of southern beech native to New Zealand. It is found on both the North and South Islands, typically in lower hills and valley floors with fertile, well-drained soil. The species is also referred to as red beech and is called Fuscospora fusca in New Zealand.

Description

Nothofagus fusca is a member of the Nothofagaceae family and belongs to the genus Nothofagus. It is endemic to New Zealand and was first described in 1871. The tree thrives in lower elevation habitats where the soil is rich and well-drained. It is one of several southern beech species found in the region and plays a role in the native forest ecosystems of the North and South Islands.
