Cleistopholis patens is a tree species in the Annonaceae family, native to several countries in West and Central Africa. It can grow up to 30 meters tall with a diameter at breast height of up to 60 cm. The tree lacks stilt roots or buttresses. Leaves are oblong to narrowly oblanceolate, with a coriaceous texture and glabrous surfaces on both sides. The flowers have 9 perianth parts in 3 whorls and are bisexual. The inflorescences are ramiflorous and axillary, with a peduncle absent. The fruiting pedicel is 15–30 mm long and glabrous.

Description

Cleistopholis patens is a tall tree species found in countries such as Benin, Cameroon, Congo, and others across West and Central Africa. It can reach up to 30 meters in height and has a diameter at breast height of up to 60 cm. The tree lacks stilt roots or buttresses. Leaves are 4.5–31 cm long and 2.5–6 cm wide, oblong to narrowly oblanceolate in shape, with an acute to acuminate apex and a cuneate to rounded base. The leaves are coriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, and shiny when dry. The flowers are bisexual, with 9 perianth parts arranged in 3 whorls. Inflorescences are ramiflorous, appearing on young or old leafless branches and are axillary, with no peduncle. The fruiting pedicel is 15–30 mm long and glabrous. The species was first described in 1901.
