Synedrella nodiflora, commonly known as cinderella-weed, is a species in the Asteraceae family. It was first described in 1791 by Carl Peter Thunberg, following the original publication by Gaertn. The species is distributed across various regions including parts of South America, the Caribbean, and several Pacific islands. The nomenclatural history of the species includes discussions on the type material, with multiple references to specimens and collections that have been considered for typification.

Description

Synedrella nodiflora belongs to the Asteraceae family and is known by the common name cinderella-weed. It was first described in 1791 by Gaertn. The species is found in regions such as BR, Cuenca río Prado, TW, VU, SC, CK, NP, AS, Kosrae, Yap, Pitcairn Islands, WS, PW, SB, TK, NR, KI, and KH. The nomenclatural history of the species involves several references to potential type specimens. Moore (1936) noted the existence of specimen 1021.7 (LINN) but did not designate it as the type. Grierson (1980) suggested unspecified material in Herb. Sloane (BM-SL) as the type, though with uncertainty. Howard (1989) indicated 1021.7 (LINN) as the type, but this collection by Patrick Browne was not acquired by Linnaeus until 1758, making it unsuitable as original material for a name published in 1755.
