Chrysophyllum marginatum belongs to the genus Chrysophyllum and is part of the Sapotaceae family, commonly known as the sapodilla family. The species is distributed across various parts of South America, including the Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast regions of Argentina, as well as Bolivia, Brazil's Northeast, Southeast, South, and West-Central regions, Paraguay, and Uruguay. This species was first published in 1887 by the botanist Radlk.
