Helleborus viridis, known as Christmas-rose, is a flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae. It is native to central and western Europe and is poisonous in all parts.

Description

Helleborus viridis, also called green hellebore, is a member of the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae. It is native to regions such as Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and parts of the United States, as well as other European countries. The plant is commonly known as Christmas-rose in English. First described in 1753 by Linnaeus (L.), it is widely distributed across central and western Europe, including southern England. All parts of the plant are toxic. The species is part of the genus Helleborus and is recognized for its early blooming period.
