Description
Ziziphus spina-christi is a member of the Rhamnaceae family, a group of flowering plants. It is commonly referred to as Christ's thorn. The species was published in 1798 and is found across a broad geographic range, including the Canary Islands, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. It occurs in countries such as Afghanistan, Algeria, Aruba, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Cyprus, Djibouti, and Egypt. The holotype for this species is associated with a Hasselquist specimen in the LINN collection, originally cited as sheet number 262.38 but likely a misrecorded reference to 262.36.
