Chordifex dimorphus is a perennial, dioecious herb native to Australia, specifically found in the Sydney and Blue Mountains regions. It typically grows on rocky ground and reaches heights of 30 to 100 cm, with stems measuring 1 to 1.3 mm in diameter. The species name, dimorphus, is derived from Latin and refers to the plant's two distinct forms. It was first described by Robert Brown in his work Prodromus Florae Novae Hollandiae et Insulae Van Diemen in 1810.

The plant is characterized by its perennial growth habit and distinct sexual dimorphism. Its specific form and habitat make it a notable species within the region. The name was later revised and published in 2004 by B.G. Briggs.
