Taxus sumatrana, known as the Sumatran yew, is a large evergreen shrub and one of eight yew species. It is native to Indonesia but also occurs in several South and Southeast Asian countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indochina, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Tibet. It is also referred to as the Taiwan yew, the Chinese yew, and the East Himalayan yew. Plants of the World Online lists T. sumatrana as a synonym of Taxus wallichiana.

Description

Taxus sumatrana belongs to the genus Taxus in the family Taxaceae. It is a widespread species found across a broad geographical range in South and Southeast Asia. The species was published in 1978 and is commonly called the Chinese yew in English. Its taxonomic name is derived from its original association with Sumatra, though it is now recognized as part of a broader distribution. Taxus sumatrana is considered a synonym of Taxus wallichiana according to Plants of the World Online.
