Paeonia obovata, known as Chinese peony, is a herbaceous perennial species in the Paeoniaceae family. It reaches heights of 30–70 cm and produces flowers in white, pink, or purple-red. The species is native to regions including Amur, China, Inner Mongolia, Japan, Korea, and parts of Russia. It is also referred to as woodland peony in English.

Description

Paeonia obovata is a herbaceous perennial with white, pink, or purple-red flowers. It grows to 30–70 cm in height and is characterized by its lower leaves with no more than nine leaflets or segments. The species is native to warm-temperate to cold regions of China, including Manchuria, as well as Korea, Japan, and the Far East of Russia. It is also found on Sakhalin. In English, it is sometimes called woodland peony. The species was first described in 1859.
