Sambucus javanica, known as Chinese elder, is a species in the Viburnaceae family. It is native to subtropical and tropical Asia, including Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, southern Thailand, and Vietnam. The plant is a perennial herb or small shrub, typically reaching 1–2 m in height.

Description

Sambucus javanica is part of the Viburnaceae family and is commonly referred to as Chinese elder. It is found in subtropical and tropical regions of Asia, with a distribution that includes Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, southern Thailand, and Vietnam. This species grows as a perennial herb or small shrub, usually between 1 and 2 meters tall. It was first described in 1826 by Reinw. ex Blume.
