Description
Pinus strobiformis belongs to the genus Pinus in the family Pinaceae. It is endemic to western Mexico, occurring in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. The species is typically found in montane forests at high elevations, growing alongside other conifer species. Originally described in 1848, it was once considered the same species as Pinus reflexa and Pinus stylesii, but is now classified separately. Its distribution is limited to specific regions in Mexico, including the Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest. Commonly referred to as Chihuahua White Pine, it is a key component of the region's high-altitude forest ecosystems.
