Eryngium foetidum is a tropical perennial herb in the family Apiaceae. It is known by several common names, including culantro, cimarrón, recao, chardon béni, Mexican coriander, samat, ban dhaniya, wide coriander, Burmese coriander, sawtooth coriander, Shadow Beni, and ngò gai. Native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, it is cultivated globally, primarily in tropical regions as a perennial, and in some temperate areas as an annual. In India, it is referred to as 'Mandhonia', particularly in the Northeast.

Description

Eryngium foetidum is a member of the carrot family (Apiaceae) and is found in various locations including Complejo Humedales Hato Corozal, Cienaga Zapatosa, and several parks in Colombia, as well as in the Neotropical, TW, CU, Kosrae, FM, SG, and other regions. It has a wide distribution across countries like Brazil, Paraguay, and others in South America. The species was first described in 1753 by Linnaeus.
