Chamaedorea alternans belongs to the genus Chamaedorea within the palm family Arecaceae. This species is known to occur in the Gulf area of Mexico. The scientific name was established by H.Wendl. in 1880. It is one of several palm species within the Chamaedorea genus that are found in tropical regions of the Americas.
