Description

Centrosema brasilianum is a climbing plant with glabrous, unarmed stems. Its leaves are imparipinnate, trifoliolate, and oppositely arranged, with lanceolate leaflets and brochidodromous venation. The inflorescence is a raceme, borne in the axils of leaves. The flowers are pedicellate, zygomorphic, with a violet corolla of five petals. The androecium is diadelphous and heterodinamous, with longitudinal anthers. The ovary is superior, sessile, and pluriovulate. The fruit is a linear legume with a glabrous, whitish epicarp and straight margins. The seeds are reniform, plane, with a marbled coat and central hilum. This species is commonly found in the Cariri region of Paraíba, Brazil, and is more prevalent than other Centrosema species in the area. It is distinguished from C. sagittatum by its trifoliolate, lanceolate leaflets instead of unifoliolate, sagitate ones.
