Xylocarpus moluccensis (Lam.) M.Roem. is a tree species in the family Meliaceae, commonly known as Cedar mangrove. It is native to a wide range across tropical regions, including Langkawi, the Andaman Is., Borneo, Madagascar, and the Comoros, among others. The species was first described in 1846.
Description
Xylocarpus moluccensis belongs to the genus Xylocarpus and is part of the Meliaceae family, which includes mahogany and other tropical hardwood trees. The species name refers to the Moluccas archipelago, where it is naturally found. It is distributed across several island groups and coastal regions in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its range extends from the western Indian Ocean to the western Pacific, including parts of Africa and Southeast Asia.
