Casuarina pauper, commonly known as black oak, belah, or kariku, is a flowering plant species in the Casuarinaceae family. Endemic to southern continental Australia, it is a dioecious tree characterized by fissured or scaly bark and waxy branchlets. The leaves are reduced to scales arranged in whorls of 9 to 13.

Description

Casuarina pauper produces fruits that are 13–18 mm long and contain winged seeds (samaras) measuring 5.5–7.0 mm in length. The species was described by F.Muell. ex L.A.S.Johnson and published in 1989. It is part of the genus Casuarina and is native to the southern regions of mainland Australia.
