Commonly referred to as giant fishtail palm or Thai giant caryota, it is a monocarpic plant, meaning it flowers once and then dies. This palm can reach heights of 20 meters or more, classifying it as a tree. Its inflorescence is notably long, extending up to 6 meters or more. The species was first described in 1845 by Griff.
