Carpinus laxiflora, known as the loose-flower hornbeam, is a deciduous tree in the Betulaceae family, native to the Korean Peninsula and Japan. It typically grows to 10–15 m in height and is found in mountain forests. The species is occasionally cultivated, with forms such as 'Pendula' (weeping) and 'Variegata' (variegated leaves) available commercially.

Description

Carpinus laxiflora is a member of the Betulaceae family and is native to Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It is a deciduous tree commonly found in mountainous regions. The species is occasionally used in bonsai and as an ornamental tree in parks or streets. A variety, C. laxiflora var. onoei, has been noted on specimens collected in Japan. Commercially available forms include a weeping variant named 'Pendula' and a variegated-leaf variant called 'Variegata'.
