Roystonea oleracea is a palm species native to the Lesser Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, and Trinidad and Tobago. It is known by common names such as Caribbean royal palm, palmiste, imperial palm, and cabbage palm. The species is also reported to be naturalized in Guyana and on the islands of Mauritius and Réunion.

Description

Roystonea oleracea belongs to the Arecaceae family and is distributed across LC, BR, PW, FM, SR, GY, GF, PA, Arauca, Casanare, Meta, EC, TW, VE, Colombia, Guyana, Leeward Is., Mauritius, New Caledonia, Réunion, Trinidad-Tobago, and the Venezuelan Antilles. The species was first described in 1901 and is recognized for its presence in tropical regions. It is commonly referred to as the Caribbean royal palm in English and other local names in its native range.
