Capsicum mirabile is a wild species of the genus Capsicum in the family Solanaceae, native to Brazil. It was first described in 1846. The species is known for its variability and has been the subject of taxonomic confusion, with overlapping records and synonymy with other species such as C. buforum.

Description

Capsicum mirabile is an erect shrub or subshrub, 1.2 to 2.5 m tall, with a thick main stem and dichotomously branching stems that form a zig-zag pattern. Leaves are membranous to coriaceous, with major and minor leaves differing in size and venation. The species is part of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest clade and has a complex taxonomic history. It has been confused with C. recurvatum and Athenaea spp., and its classification has varied due to inconsistent use of the name by Hunziker. The species is used in cytogenetic studies and is part of the eastern Brazilian Capsicum diversity.
