Capsicum cardenasii

Capsicum cardenasii is a species in the genus Capsicum, family Solanaceae, native to Bolivia and Peru. It is diploid with 2n=24 and is part of the C. pubescens complex. The species is known by the native name ulupica and is closely related to C. eximium.
Description
Capsicum cardenasii is an erect shrub or subshrub, 0.8 to 2.5 m tall, with a zig-zag branching pattern. Leaves are membranous, narrowly ovate, and have sparse eglandular and glandular trichomes. Inflorescences are axillary, with 2-3 flowers per axil or solitary. The species is part of the Purple corolla clade and is closely related to C. eximium and C. eshbaughii. It can be distinguished by its lilac to purple, broadly campanulate corollas and sparse pubescence. It is native to the Andes and is found in Bolivia and Peru.
