Buxus macowanii, known as Cape Box, is an evergreen boxwood species native to South Africa. It is found in two distinct populations: one in coastal forests and shaded ravines from the Eastern Cape to southern KwaZulu-Natal, and another in the Waterberg region of the central Transvaal. The species was first described in 1886 by Oliv. and belongs to the Buxaceae family.

Description

Buxus macowanii is a member of the genus Buxus, which includes over 100 species distributed globally, though it does not occur in Australia. This species is adapted to specific habitats, including coastal forests and shaded gullies, and is not found outside of South Africa. Its distribution is limited to the Cape Provinces, KwaZulu-Natal, and Northern Provinces. The plant is evergreen and is part of the Buxaceae family, which is native to multiple regions around the world.
