Oenothera biennis, known as the common evening-primrose, is a flowering plant in the family Onagraceae. It is native to eastern and central North America, ranging from Newfoundland to Alberta and extending south to Florida and Texas. The plant has been widely naturalized in temperate and subtropical regions around the world. Evening primrose oil is derived from this species.
