Sagittaria rigida, known as Canadian Arrowhead, is an aquatic plant species in the family Alismataceae. It is distinguished by its narrow oval leaves and sessile female flowers, which give it its name. The plant has three white petals and is closely related to other Sagittaria species.
Description
Sagittaria rigida is native to regions including Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, as well as parts of Europe and North America. It is commonly found in aquatic environments. Unlike some other Sagittaria species such as Sagittaria latifolia, which has arrowhead-shaped leaves, S. rigida has narrow, oval leaves. Its flowers are similar to those of other members of the genus, with three white petals. The species was first described in 1813 by Pursh.
