Description
Mitracarpus polycladus, described by Urb. in 1903, is a member of the Rubiaceae family and is commonly referred to as cana gorda girdlepod. It is native to Puerto Rico and the Leeward Islands, specifically the Guánica Commonwealth Forest and Saba. This species thrives in coastal scrub and dwarf forests characterized by limestone gravel substrates. The plant coexists with several other species, including Bucida buceras, Bursera simaruba, Exostema caribaeum, Coccoloba microstachya, Plumeria alba, and Pilosocereus armatus, which are part of its ecological community.
