Calycanthus chinensis, known as Chinese sweetshrub, is a flowering plant in the Calycanthaceae family, native to Southeast China. It was first described in 1964 and formally published in 1979. The species is cultivated as an ornamental shrub and has been hybridized with other Calycanthus species to combine its broader tepals with the scented and more colorful flowers of its relatives.

Description

Calycanthus chinensis is a member of the Calycanthaceae family and is native to Southeast China. It was first given a valid scientific name in 1964 and later published in 1979. This species is grown as an ornamental shrub for its distinctive flowers. Hybridization efforts have combined it with other Calycanthus species to enhance floral traits, merging the larger tepals of C. chinensis with the more colorful and fragrant flowers of its relatives.
