Juglans californica, known as the California walnut, is a member of the Juglandaceae family. It is native to the Central Valley and the Coast Range valleys in California, where it grows as a large shrub or small tree. This species is also referred to as the California black walnut or the Southern California black walnut.

Description

Juglans californica is a shrub or small tree in the walnut family, Juglandaceae. It is endemic to California, particularly the Central Valley and the Coast Range valleys, spanning from Northern to Southern California. The species was first described in 1875 by S. Watson. Though its distribution is primarily within California, it has also been reported in regions such as the North Caucasus, Tadzhikistan, and the Transcaucasus. Common names for this species include California walnut and California black walnut.
