Abies magnifica, known as California Red Fir, is a fir species native to the mountains of southwest Oregon and California. It grows at elevations between 1,400 and 2,700 meters and is distinguished by the red-brown bark of mature trees.

Description

Abies magnifica is a member of the Pinaceae family and is found in the high-elevation forests of the western United States. It is described as a tall, conical tree with needle-like leaves and is often associated with mixed coniferous forests. The species was first described in 1863 by A. Murray. Its common name, California Red Fir, reflects its geographic range and the coloration of its bark on older trees.
