Gymnocalycium oenanthemum is a species in the Cactaceae family, native to the Northwest region of Argentina. It is a slightly flattened spherical cactus that can grow up to 12 cm in size. The plant features 10–13 ribs with tubercles bearing radial spines. During the summer, it produces wine-red or pink daisy-like flowers.
Description
Gymnocalycium oenanthemum, described by Backeb. in 1934, is a member of the Cactaceae family. It is endemic to the Northwest of Argentina and has a globular shape with a slight flattening. The plant has 10–13 ribs, each lined with tubercles that bear radial spines. Its flowering period occurs in summer, when it produces daisy-like flowers in shades of wine-red or pink. This species is commonly referred to as a cactus in both English and the target language.
