Onopordum tauricum, known as bull cotton thistle, is a thistle species native to Eurasia. It has been introduced to regions such as Australia and the western United States, where it is considered a noxious weed. The plant is closely related to Onopordum acanthium and shares similar invasive tendencies.

Description

Onopordum tauricum belongs to the Asteraceae family and is found in various regions including Belgium, Ukraine, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, and the United States. It was first described in 1803 by Willd. This species is notable for its ability to spread aggressively, often becoming a problematic weed in non-native habitats. Its distribution includes both natural and introduced ranges, with records from the conterminous 48 United States, as well as parts of Europe and the Mediterranean.
