Gnetum gnemon L., a gymnosperm in the family Gnetaceae, is native to regions spanning from India to the western Pacific islands. Commonly known as buko, it is also referred to as melinjo or belinjo in Indonesian, and by other local names in various regions. It was first described in 1767.

Description

Gnetum gnemon L. is a species of the genus Gnetum in the family Gnetaceae. It is native to areas including Mizoram, Assam, the Malay Peninsula, the Malay Archipelago, the Philippines, and the western Pacific islands. The species is known by several common names, such as gnetum, joint fir, two leaf, melinjo or belinjo in Indonesian, bago or lumbay in Filipino, and others in local languages. The species was first published in 1767. Merrill discussed the Rumphius plates in 1917 but did not designate a type.
