Tripsacum dactyloides, known as buffalo-grass, is a warm-season, sod-forming bunch grass native to the Western Hemisphere. It ranges from the eastern United States to northern South America. This grass thrives in sunny, moist environments, such as along watercourses and in wet prairies. It has also shown adaptability to disturbed conditions in certain regions.

Description

Tripsacum dactyloides belongs to the Poaceae family and is widely distributed across the Western Hemisphere. It is native to areas including the eastern United States, northern South America, and parts of the Caribbean. The grass is commonly found in moist, sunny habitats, including wet prairies and along watercourses. It is also known by the common names eastern gamagrass and Fakahatchee grass. The species was first published in 1759 by Linnaeus.
