Paspalum conjugatum, known as buffalo grass, is a perennial grass native to the American tropics. It has spread to tropical regions globally, including Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, Northern Africa, Northern Eastern Australia, and New Zealand. It is also referred to as carabao grass, hilo grass, sour paspalum, T-grass, or sour grass.

Description

Paspalum conjugatum, a member of the Poaceae family, is a tropical to subtropical perennial grass. It is native to the American tropics and has been naturalized in tropical Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. It has also been recorded in Northern Africa, Northern Eastern Australia, and New Zealand. Common names include carabao grass, hilo grass, sour paspalum, T-grass, and buffalo grass. It is found in several parks in Colombia, including the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Sierra de la Macarena, El Tuparro, Tinigua, Los Katíos, and Gorgona. It has also been reported in various regions such as BR, CO, TW, MM, VU, CK, NP, NU, AS, the Pitcairn Islands, WS, PW, SB, BI, TK, and KH. The species was first described in 1772 by P.J. Bergius.
