Description

Sorghum bicolor is a member of the grass family Poaceae and is known by several common names, including broomcorn, great millet, Indian millet, and jowar. It is cultivated for its grain and grows in tall clumps. Taxonomic discussions have examined the typification of the name, with various specimens in LINN considered potential types. However, only Davidse's 2000 selection is accepted as validly typifying the name. The species is widely distributed and has been the subject of botanical classification studies.
