Phegopteris hexagonoptera, known as Broad Beech Fern, is a perennial forest fern native to the eastern United States and parts of Ontario. It grows from a creeping rootstock and forms clumps of fronds. The species is commonly found in moist, undisturbed hardwood forests.
Description
Phegopteris hexagonoptera (Michx.) Fée is a member of the Thelypteridaceae family. It is widely distributed across the eastern United States and into Ontario, Canada. This fern thrives in hardwood forest environments, particularly in moist and undisturbed conditions. The species was first described in 1852.
