Description

Catharanthus roseus is a perennial herb with a native range limited to Madagascar, though it is now found in tropical regions worldwide. It is valued for its medicinal properties, particularly as a source of anticancer drugs. The plant's scientific name was revised from Vinca rosea to Catharanthus roseus. It is commonly called bright-eyes and has been the subject of botanical discussion, including in Boiteau's 1972 work on early descriptions and collections of the species. The plant's wide cultivation and use in traditional and modern medicine highlight its importance beyond its ornamental value.
