Breynia vitis-idaea, known as officinal breynia, is a tree-like perennial species in the family Phyllanthaceae. It is distributed from India east to Taiwan and Okinawa and south to Indonesia. The plant can grow as a shrub or treelet, reaching up to 3 m in height, with egg-shaped leaves. It produces staminate flowers and spherical red fruits.

Description

Breynia vitis-idaea (Burm.f.) C.E.C.Fisch. is a member of the family Phyllanthaceae. It is found in regions including India, China, Southeast Asia, and the islands of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This species typically grows as a shrub or small tree, with leaves that are broadly oval in shape. The plant bears unisexual staminate flowers and produces round, red fruits. It was first described in 1932.
